Our quality standards

Orangenkinder® – chrome-free, vegetable-tanned organic Nappa leather

We source the leather used in our children’s shoes exclusively from IVN-certified German tanneries. This is particularly important to us because:

  • Unlike chrome tanning, vegetable tanning does not produce any toxins that can form even after tanning in contact with skin and sweat. These can lead to skin intolerance or chronic skin rashes, as a large proportion of you also suffer from a chrome allergy – often unknowingly. This is a contact allergy – but when wearing Orangenkinder shoes, you don’t have to worry about chrome exposure.
  • Our vegetable-tanned natural leather is therefore particularly kind to the skin and allergy-friendly.
  • Chrome-tanned leather is out of the question for us and is therefore not used in our Orangenkinder products.

Made in Germany – Ecological and fair production in Franconia

Orangenkinder leather and wool walk slippers have been handmade with great attention to detail in Franconia for over 20 years. We pay strict attention to sustainable production processes and the use of ecologically sound materials, especially for Orangenkinder leather and wool. The production is located in Bavaria, in Wilhelmsdorf in Franconia, near Herzogenaurach. We ensure that our Orangenkinder products are manufactured under socially fair criteria and ecologically sustainable environmental aspects of leather and shoe production. You can see and, above all, feel the result in your personal Orangenkinder shoes made of leather or wool walk.

Natural leather and its natural characteristics

Orangenkinder leather shoes fit on your nimble feet like a second skin. And just as your skin differs from one another, our Orangenkinder leather shoes also differ from one another.

No Orangenkinder® shoe is like another. Just like you. Because we have chosen natural organic leather, we experience enormous ecological advantages in the production of our products – which you can also see and feel. Our leather is not re-embossed; it appears as nature and the environment shape it. No chemical sealing with plastics, no adulteration and therefore a natural raw material. As a result, you may also see characteristics on the leather surface that occur naturally, such as mosquito bites, scars and the natural surface structure of different areas of the body. For example, smooth leather is more likely to be found in the back area of the animal and grained leather in the flex areas on the belly and joints.

Our leather is also fully compostable! This means you could throw it in your compost and it would dissolve after a while.

Orangenkinder shoes and their colors

Orangenkinder shoes are distinguished by a large selection of bright colors and motifs. The colors of our leather are synthetic and harmless. Unfortunately, vegetable dyes would not be lightfast and would fade quickly when worn under the influence of light.

But not only our wide range of colors benefits from this ecological approach, but also your health and tolerance of our products. When choosing our raw materials in production, we pay strict attention to environmental compatibility. The leather of our Orangenkinder is regularly tested for heavy metals and other critical ingredients.

A little tip: Since our Orangenkinder leather is not treated and sealed with harsh chemicals, it can happen that the leather rubs off a little when it comes into contact with moisture. Therefore, please also pay attention to the corresponding instructions for cleaning your treasures, so Orangenkinder will be maximally durable. Link cleaning.

So: Watch out for the white socks, Mom!
